IP-cop here I come

21 August, 2006 (15:27) | Hardware, Linux | By: Talon

I finally got enough money to buy the hardware components to build a Ip-cop linux hardware firewall server computer. This computer runs 24/7 in front of my network off of the modem, with dual high performance NICs (1 into ip-cop from modem, 1 out to rest of network). It provides a very powerful firewall, anti-virus protection, anti-spam, and anti-spyware features. Talk about network lockdown :D

Comp specs:

PC-chips mATX socket 478 mobo, dual pata channels, 2x sata

2.8ghz P4 Northword core CPU (400mhz system bus, 512kb L2, runs really cool)

Masscool heatsink/Fan, 70mm, rated up to 3.2 Prescott (this is northwood, much cooler running, ran 30’s in a laptop!)

512 PC3200 DDR CL3

80gig Seagate 7.2k pata hdd

Standard cheapy case

350w rosewill PSU

36x cd-rom

I should get the parts and get it together late this week. Woot, been waiting 5 months for this computer.
