Steam promotes hackers

18 November, 2006 (13:28) | Counter-Strike, Games

Steams last update has just made CSS hacker heaven.  With clients able to control the cl_restrict_server_commands CVAR they no longer can be scanned by the current plugins (zblock, cvarx etc).  Mani and a few Mattie ES scripts have the ability to kick players who have the command on and a auto scan with a time interval.  This in turn will down server traffic overall, increase CPU usage by scanning clients to check if the CVAR is the correct value.

Also clients will be utterly confused of why they are being kicked and dont know what a “console” is let alone how to access it (since its disabled by default, nice 1).  I know that as soon as mani puts out the autokick update and I install it on the 15 servers I manage, i’ma have dozens of people coming to me of how to fix it….. so they can play……………………………….. valve just made my job 10 times harder, as if I dont spend enough time working with servers in the first place.
